The Limes Surgery is a long-stablished general medical practice that has been at the heart of Hoddesdon since the early 1900s.
The roots of the practice are a stone’s throw from our current surgery at Rathmoor House, a fine Georgian building still to be seen in the High Street. Many notable local figures practiced here, one of the earliest being Dr Sturge who tragically was killed outside the front door of the surgery.
After the Second World War the practice was continued by Drs Barbor and Donald Bedford, the latter subsequently becoming Senior Consultant Surgeon at Hertford County Hospital. In time, they were joined by Drs Beilby and Roe, followed by Dr Gervis and then in turn by Drs McGann and Vissenga.
In 1969 the increasing numbers of patients and doctors meant that the accommodation at Rathmoor House was no longer adequate, so a move was made to the recently completed Hoddesdon Health Centre, next to Lowewood House Now a museum).
Over the years at the Health Centre various doctors came and went; the passing figures included Bronagh McMahon, John Earle and Peter Jackson. The practice was joined in turn by Fiona Henderson, Colin Blankfield, Tessa Dormon, Mark Andrews, Rodney Brittan and Gary Parkes.
With the increasing size of the practice it became apparent that we had outgrown the facilities at the Health Centre, and after years of attempting to either expand the facilities at the Health Centre or find more suitable accommodation, we made the decision to move to our current site at Limes Court.
